About the Director: Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, James Day made his first movie with grade school friends at the age of 11. His filmmaking continued at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland and later as his chief extracurricular activity at John Carroll University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Latin. He attended film school at Loyola Marymount University in southern California for a Masters in Fine Arts. Santa Susana is Day’s graduate thesis film. Among his cinematic influences are Werner Herzog, Robert Bresson, and Woody Allen. Day still refreshes his Latin skills by translating the works of Plautus and Caesar in his spare time, and enjoys reading biographies of American figures. Team of Rivals is his favorite book.
