Human Thing
Directed by:  Kate Brown
Animated Music Video
2007   |   3m 40s   |   USA, Canada

Synopsis:  This music video is a collaboration between The Be Good Tanyas member Frazey Ford, who wrote the song "Human Thing" for the cd Hello Love, and animator Kate Brown. This is hand-made, cottage industry animation using the techniques of rotoscopy and experiments in animation with glass beads. The images are drawn and painted on tracing paper and digitally photographed with back light, allowing many layers for each frame.

About the Director:   Prior to becoming an animator, Kate Brown worked for 40 years as a potter, producing a distinctive body of work ranging from dinnerware and serving pieces to large tile murals and burial urns. In 2001, she took a one-year sabbatical and discovered her passion for animation at Evergreen State University in Olympia, Washington. Her first animated short URSA DREAM, with each frame hand drawn or painted, has traveled the world in film festivals and special showings. Kate looks forward to creating many more animation pieces in the future, traveling to develop the projects and then working from her home base of 27 years in an intentional community in rural southwestern New Mexico.

Screening Times:  Sinclair / Th 7:30 PM, Fri 5 PM, Sat 1 PM  (Shorts Block D)
