Volta -Invitational Film Directed by: Ryan Mullins Documentary | 2009 | 12m 38s Canada/Ghana
www.solipsisproductions.com The cinema has always been a place where you can go, if only for an evening, to escape your troubles… even in Africa. The Volta Cinema WAS such a place for the people of the small town of Hohoe and beyond. Nestled in the outskirts of rural Ghana, this crumbling art deco cinema was a mainstay of Chinese, South Asian and American films for over 45 years. Closed in 1997 after years of disrepair, the Volta cinema is now home to a mission school for children from the nearby Muslim community. Former projectionist Emmanuel Agboyame and others tell the story of this cinema and look back on the sense of community it brought out in everyone, every night at dusk.
Screening Times @ Victory Fire House with "Fambul Tok" 9:00PM Wednesday, June 15 7:00PM Friday, June 17
